Today’s Reading:
Isaiah 9-10
2 The people who walked in darkness
Isaiah 9:2
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.
The Spirit of the Lord says,
Truth, piercing truth. Truth with the strength of steel and the sharpness of a sword. I Am piercing the atmosphere with truth. I’m piercing through the fog of war, through the darkness, through the haze with truth that has been forged in the fire, has been tested and has withstood the test. I will brandish truth as a weapon, though it is not a typical weapon. This one is firmly planted right in the middle of everything and everyone, and it simply stands, immovable, strong, sharp and tested. This truth is undeniable, immovable, and unshakable. It will continue to stand there right in the middle of everything for all to see, to consider, to view and to inspect.
6 For to us a child is born,
Isaiah 9:6-7
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Truth is not moving, nor is it changing. Truth’s very existence and revealing is like a throwing down of the gauntlet. Truth’s emergence issues a challenge to the passersby, to those who happen upon it, and all those who are confronted with it. Truth issues a challenge in the hearts of all who come face to face with it.
Will you change? Will you reconsider the facts? Will you re-organize your beliefs to accommodate and to acknowledge the existence and the bearing of this great truth? Will you soften your heart? Will you bow and acknowledge truth? Or will you double down? Will you harden your heart against truth? Will you steel your mind against truth and be positioned as an ostrich with its head in the sand?
Truth is emerging and has emerged. And truth is issuing a challenge to all who see it, all who are confronted with the reality of it. And truth — unlike lies — does not need a defender.
20 In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. 21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.
Isaiah 10:20
All truth needs to do is sit there silently on display, beckoning those who will come to come, drawing those who will align to align, asking those who will change their hearts and minds to do so, to relent and repent. Truth has been established, and truth is sitting firmly, being further exposed, further revealed, further emerging. Truth is not going away. Truth is only becoming more obvious, more undeniable, more relentlessly present. Truth is here to stay, and truth is calling those who will to join her team. Truth is glorious, is shining and is forgiving to those who will submit to her. Submission is the required cost of entry to the team of truth. It pays to join sooner rather than later, because truth is only expanding, only rising, only growing in stature and in footprint. Truth will soon tower over all.
How to Respond
- Desire truth in the innermost parts. Be one whose heart is soft and inclined toward truth, toward a quick admission of wrong, toward changing positions toward what is right when presented with the truth.
- Don’t double down on lies because they are popular or well accepted. Relentlessly choose truth.
- Pray, Lord, I submit my will and understanding to You. Holy Spirit, show me what is true. Help me to discern truth and lies. Help me to live with ears, heart and mind that are in a steady posture of being bent toward Your voice and truth. Reveal the lies that I am believing or inclined to believe, and show me what You say is true.
- Declare, the Lord is causing truth to emerge and truth’s existence to become undeniable. Truth is issuing a challenge for people to pick sides — that of truth or that of continued lies.
- Decree, I am one who loves the Lord and who loves and desires truth. I will not side with lies, with false narratives and with socially accepted fallacies. I choose the side of truth, regardless of the cost.
