Today’s Readings:
Psalm 16
16 Protect me, God, for I take refuge in You.
Psalm 16:1-3
2 I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have nothing good besides You.”
3 As for the saints who are on the earth,
They are the majestic ones; all my delight is in them.
The Spirit of the Lord says,
Stir up your spirit. Stir up joy. Stir up love and affection for Me. Stir up anticipation. Stir up expectation. Look to the horizon. Look out on to the horizon.
Make way. Watch for the arrival — the sudden, unexpected near stampede of an arrival — of the pioneers. They are moving fast and steady. They are even unsettling things beneath them as they move. They are even stirring up the atmosphere as they travel forth in power, speed and with laser-like determination.
Watch for the coming and the arrival of the pioneers. They are the ones who have blazed new trails, who have traversed the ancient paths, and who answer to no one but Me. They fiercely love and are fiercely loyal to their families, and they are coming to blaze the trail to the new way. They are coming to heal. They are coming to disrupt. They are coming to lead the way back to basics, back to original ingredients, back to true hospitality, back to family and community. They will welcome many to their table, and those who dine with them, who break bread with them, who rub elbows with them will become like them. This pioneering lifestyle will become highly contagious, because it is bringing the ancient, trusted, essential practices into now. It is also blazing new fiery trails into the future.
7 I will bless the Lord who has advised me;
Psalm 16:7-9
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
8 I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will dwell securely.
These pioneers don’t rely on institutions. They don’t trust existing structures. They don’t believe or even bother listening to the talking heads. They accept full responsibility for every aspect of their life. Every aspect. And they are blazing trails of fire and unapologetic destruction of the common and known ways. They will burn new trails that destroy the usual way. These pioneers will do much damage to the usual way, the expected way, the traditional way. Instead, they will do things the God-directed, God-inspired way. It will make people uneasy. It will make the regulators and the watchers, the minders and the status quo police very uneasy, alarmed and even outraged. The pioneers are coming in to disrupt and destroy the status quo. They will blaze fiery paths over the status quo into a wide-open spacious, not-yet-defined, not confined, untamable future. They are blazing fiery trails into the great unknown, and it will be glorious.
11 You will make known to me the way of life;
Psalm 16:11
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
It will be a bumpy ride, but these are ones with whom to hitch your wagon. These are ones worth following. If you hitch your wagon to them, you will get there; but it will be bumpy. You will eat a lot of dirt and choke on a lot of dust on the way. If you choose to come alongside them, become one of them and run with the horses, you will find freedom before reaching the destination; and you will be one who shapes the path to the future.
How to Respond
- Stir up joy, love and affection for the Lord and expectation of His move.
- Pray, Lord, help my eyes see the pioneers who are disrupting the status quo and blazing a trail to the future. Help me to respond to your call and become one of them. Provide a way for me to join their ranks and be one who disrupts and destroys the paths and the systems of the status quo.
- Declare, the Lord has been raising up pioneers — equipping and strengthening them in the wilderness. He is calling them forth to disrupt and dismantle the status quo. He has caused them to traverse the ancient paths and gain knowledge from the ancient ways, and now they are breaking new ground, stirring up the atmosphere and blazing trails that destroy the usual way.
- Decree, I am on the side of the Lord and the Lord’s anointed. I will rise up and move forward in power as the Lord calls. I will know a pioneer when I see one, and I will be a pioneer and join hands with other pioneers as I am called. Together we will disrupt and destroy the status quo. Together we will blaze a fiery trail into the great, wide-open spacious future as the Lord leads us.
