Today’s Reading:
Isaiah 40

9 Get yourself up on a high mountain,
O Zion, bearer of good news,
Lift up your voice mightily,
O Jerusalem, bearer of good news;
Lift it up, do not fear.
Say to the cities of Judah,
“Here is your God!”
10 Behold, the Lord God will come with might,
With His arm ruling for Him.
Behold, His reward is with Him
And His recompense before Him.

Isaiah 40:9-10

The Spirit of the Lord says,
You will soar like eagles — beautiful, fierce and strong; unconcerned and unbothered by the world beneath you; fully confident in My ability and follow through of provision. You will have the freedom and the strength, the confidence and the power of eagles. You will join Me up here where the air is clear — far above the rancor, the chaos and the warring below. You will be called My mighty ones, My free ones, My endowed with strength, power and wisdom ones. You will soar as My called out ones, My chosen ones, ones who heard My voice and responded. You will soar as eagles, and you will live as a warrior class — as watchmen, as guards and protectors of the people and the land.

21 Do you not know? Have you not heard?
Has it not been declared to you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain
And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
23 He it is who reduces rulers to nothing,
Who makes the judges of the earth meaningless.
24 Scarcely have they been planted,
Scarcely have they been sown,
Scarcely has their stock taken root in the earth,
But He merely blows on them, and they wither,
And the storm carries them away like stubble.

Isaiah 40:21-24

It’s about trusting in Me. It’s about living freely and carrying no baggage. It’s about being stark, wild examples of freed ones, of freedom. It’s about laughing in the face of tyranny and living instead under the rule and the lordship of Almighty God. It’s about rejecting all that is false, all that is wicked, all that confines and lays a heavy burden. It’s about being a forerunner of freedom and giving the world a taste, a hint of what that freedom could be like, could look like, could feel like for them.

Rise up My eagles. Rise up My freed ones. Rise up My forerunners and live free. Live above the mess and the ground warfare. Live above the confusion and the weighty burdens of unsanctioned men. Rise up in freedom.

28 Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is inscrutable.
29 He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.
30 Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
31 Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Freedom can look so foreign to prisoners that it may seem like an act of great rebellion. In a way it is. It’s a rebellion against tyranny. It’s a rebellion against man-made enslavement. It’s a rebellion against all of the burdens put on a people that were never meant to be there — many of which are not legal.

Rise up in freedom My freed ones. Live in open rebellion to the wicked by rejecting fear, rejecting compulsion of man, rejecting and ignoring false burdens and made-up unsanctioned rules. Rise up and live free in truth and purity. You are paving the path back to freedom. Live free. Be free.

How to Respond

  • Choose to walk in quick and determined obedience to the Lord. Do not bow to the whims and forced burdens of men and women who do not serve Him.
  • Pray, Lord, help me to rise up like an eagle. Help me to live in the freedom You have given me and You have created me for. Help me to shake off every vestige of fear, and live in freedom, trust and confidence in You. Help me to be an example to the people and a steadfast obedient servant to You.
  • Declare, the Lord is calling His lovers to rise up as eagles, as beacons of freedom, as forerunners, examples and watchmen. He is calling His lovers to live in open rebellion against wickedness by walking in purity and truth.
  • Decree, I will walk by faith and not fear. I will soar like an eagle —free and fierce, confident and filled with trust in the Lord my God. I will not bow to the whims of the wicked. I will live in purity and truth. I will be free.
