Today’s Reading:
Psalm 119
Lord, don’t allow me to make a mess of my life, for I cling to your commands and follow them as closely as I can. I will run after you with delight in my heart, for you will make me obedient to your instructions.
Psalms 119:31-32 TPT
I heard the Spirit of the Living God say,
Trust and obey. I’m walking you into parts unknown, into territory that seems dark and uncertain. But walk with Me. Heed My voice of instruction. You will see that I light your path one step at a time. Obedience may not always bring the light of understanding. I may reserve that for another time. Don’t expect your obedience to always bring understanding. That’s not the always going to be the case. But obedience will bring peace to your heart. Obedience will cause that nudging to meet its point of fulfillment, and you will know that you have done what I said or what I asked.
Help me turn my eyes away from illusions so that I pursue only that which is true; drench my soul with life as I walk in your paths.
Psalms 119:37 TPT
This may not be the time of greatest clarity when it comes to the things I ask of you. But obedience in this season is establishing you and setting the framework for the rest of your life. Obedience in this season — even in the midst of no clarity, even when the only clarity is what I’ve said to do — and the “why” and the “to what end” are no where to be found. I will meet you in those moments, and I will walk with you into these great acts of obedience that will not make sense to you and will make even less sense to those around you. Yet you will know that I said go, that I said speak, that I said touch, that I said heal, that I said bow, that I said kneel. Whatever it is, you will know that My voice is behind you, in your ear, in your heart. Don’t brush Me aside. Don’t attempt to reason it out or make sense of it. Just do as I say when I say, where I say.
I will walk with you in complete freedom, for I seek to follow your every command.
Psalms 119:45 TPT
Some things will spring to understanding after the obedience, and for some things you will never know what that act of obedience set in motion. Some things you will learn seasons down the road the impact that was made. Just operate with what I told Peter — it’s not for you to know. If you operate from that place, you will spare yourself a lot of wasted time and unnecessary confusion — because I have told you now, and I will repeat it again. The “why” and the “to what end” are not always going to be for you to know. And in this season it will feel like very little of it is for you to know. But trust and obey, and know that this is setting the framework for your future.
How to Respond
- Prepare your heart. Decide now to trust the Lord and to quickly and fully obey His voice of instruction.
- Pray, Holy Spirit thank You for helping me, for nudging me, for guiding and instructing me. Help me to get my heart and mind into a posture of ready obedience. Help me to discipline my mind to not be focused on the outcomes or on Your reasoning and purposes but instead to know my place is to say yes Lord, I will do it. And to follow through as quickly and fully as I can.
- Declare, I will run after you with delight in my heart, for you will make me obedient to your instructions. — Psalms 119:32 TPT
- Decree, I surrender my need for understanding, and I will trust the voice of the Lord. I will position myself into a place of greater humility and greater obedience. I am determined to obey the voice of the Lord when I hear it, and move quickly and fully to follow His instruction.
