23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will follow My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.
John 14:23
The Lord says,
Let your thoughts of Me consume you. May you fall asleep in prayer, in worship and with songs of love for Me on your lips. When you awake, let your first thoughts be of Me. Lose yourself in your love for Me, and in My love for you. This is the place where I desire for you to be found. This is the place where your real identity can be found — wrapped up in your love for Me and My love for you. Our relationship should be so personal, so close, so real, that we have a constant conversation that never ceases. This is what communing in your love for Me and My love for you is. It looks like an unceasing conversation between ones deeply in love. Let your heart make songs to Me.
By this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says that he remains in Him ought, himself also, walk just as He walked.
1 John 2:5b-6
Let your love for Me cause you to go out of your way to show love and kindness to those I put in your path. Let this love mark you with a gentleness that is otherworldly. Let your time with Me be so unceasing that your mind and lips are filled with wisdom — for yourself and for those around you.
14 Then you will take delight in the Lord,
Isaiah 58:14
And I will make you ride on the heights of the earth;
And I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father,
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Can you see how living in love with Me, how abiding in deep love with Me, and in My deep unending love for you causes your life to look and sound and feel different? Can you see that this kind of love, this kind of communion is drawing you up yet higher? Can you see it is drawing you constantly closer to My heart, My way of thinking? As you lose yourself in this love, the baggage and the weights fall off. It’s not that all of the problems leave, though some do. It’s that you are not bearing these burdens alone, and you have downgraded them from first in your sight. They have become secondary and tertiary to Me.
Determine to free fall into My love. Let go. Stir up your love for Me in your heart. Swim in the vast ocean of My love for you. Immerse yourself in My love and in the pleasure of communion with Me. Watch as the problems and the troubles shrink in your sight because of the largeness and the reality of My true love.
How to Respond
- Set your eyes and your affections on the Lord. Spend time in worship and dwelling on His faithfulness.
- Make thanksgiving a discipline.
- Read all of the books in the Bible written by John, and dwell on the words and perspective and experiences of one who modeled unbroken communion with Jesus.
- Declare, I love you Lord, and I am setting my eyes and my affections on you. I will not let anything or anyone come between us.
- Pray, Lord, draw me closer and give me a fresh revelation and impartation of your love for me.
