Today’s Readings:
John 4
John 8
John 17
34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 Now the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.
John 8:34-36
The Lord says,
Freedom is here for you. Freedom is available to you and to all. It’s sitting on the doorstep of your heart. Freedom’s name is Jesus. Why are you living burdened and weighted down? Why are you living wrapped up in chains and shackles? Freedom is one heart’s cry away.
Open your mouth and say, “Jesus come help me. Jesus, I’m broken, bruised, battered, trapped and living under the weight of a burden that is too big for me to bear. Jesus, come help me. Rescue me from his mess I’m living in. Rescue me from this mess of my own making. Wash me clean, and come live inside of me. Come and take up residence in my heart. Come and direct the way I should go. Come make me brand new and bring me into your family — where mercy, love, grace and forgiveness never run out, where my will and desires change, my priorities and choices change, where my mind is changed. Come make me a new creation, forever covenanted to you, forever changed, forever free, forever blessed. Come Jesus. I’m living outside of your grace and love, but I want to be inside. Come show me the way. Come change my heart and my life forever. Come bring me into a beautiful broad, spacious place. Come renew my heart and make me like a child — filled with joy, unburdened, living with no inhibitions and no concerns about what others think. My only concern will be what my Savior and Change Maker, my Freedom Giver Jesus thinks. That will be my North Star. That will be what guides my life and decisions. I can already see how much simpler life is by reaching out to you Jesus. Jesus, would you come?”
Then let Jesus take you by the hand, remove the past, the burdens, the weights the chains and make you into a new creation — fully forgiven, fully washed by His perfect blood, fully accepted and fully free.
12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
John 8:12
Don’t be one who had freedom sitting on their doorstep but did not cry out for help. Don’t be one who stayed locked up because of regret, self-loathing or the cruel voices in their mind. No, cry out to Jesus. Cry out for His help, His saving grace, His hand of rescue, and you will be saved. You will be freed. You will find life everlasting.
(Jesus prayed) 20 “I am not asking on behalf of these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word,21 that they may all be one; just as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 The glory which You have given Me I also have given to them, so that they may be one, just as We are one;
John 17:20-22
Jesus will bring you into days of childlike wonder and faith — days where you don’t recognize your former life, struggles or burdens, days where you live in such abundance and prosperity of soul that many flock to you to learn how to reach out to Jesus. You will be a safe haven for many in need of rescue. You will be a beacon and a welcoming light. You will be like a mother hen welcoming them all in to learn about Jesus, His rescue, His freedom, His grace, His abundant and unfathomable, unmeasurable love. It will be like you are one torch lighting the next one on fire for Jesus — because of His personal touch, because of His overwhelming grace, because of the love that He gives that compares with nothing you or they have ever known.
42 and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One truly is the Savior of the world.”
John 4:42
See, choosing Jesus is not just for you, it’s for them. You can impact and help set the world free. But first you have to free yourself. Choose Jesus. Cry out to Him, and watch the most rapid personal transformation you have ever seen unfold in your own life. You will be amazed. You will be nothing short of astounded at the impact that grace and freedom, love and mercy has on your own soul and life. Cry out to Jesus. He will respond. He will come. He has the key to set you free.
How to Respond
- Get quiet and ask Jesus to come and set you free. Say, Jesus, I have been living my own way, and I am bruised, broken and burdened under the weight of my sin. I know I have messed up, and even when I do things right, my life is still feels heavy. Would you come in? Would come and free me? Would you wash me clean and make me yours forever? I’m so sorry that I haven’t been able to do this on my own. I don’t want to do it alone my own way anymore. I want you Jesus. I want to live free in your grace. Thank you for your sacrifice on the cross, your victory over death and your great love for me. You did it all for me. Make me new Jesus. I want to be with you.
- Read the Gospel of John and personalize it.
- Look for a community church where you sense the Presence of the Lord. Don’t settle for one where you don’t feel His Presence.
- Worship the Lord for His provision of salvation and freedom.
- Declare, He who the Son has set free is free indeed! Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! I am freed by the blessed blood of Jesus.
- Declare, I am a child of the One True King, set free by Jesus. The light He has placed inside of me is destroying darkness and causing those who have been living in darkness to see the freedom that is available in Jesus.
- Decree, darkness must flee, because the light of Jesus is here and growing stronger and brighter.
