Today’s Reading:
Jeremiah 23
23 “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture!” declares the Lord. 2 Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel concerning the shepherds who are tending My people: “You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not attended to them; behold, I am about to attend to you for the evil of your deeds,” declares the Lord. 3 “Then I Myself will gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and bring them back to their pasture, and they will be fruitful and multiply. 4 I will also raise up shepherds over them and they will tend them; and they will not be afraid any longer, nor be terrified, nor will any be missing,” declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 23:1-4
The Spirit of the Lord says,
My sheep have scattered. My sheep have scattered, because the gate is broken. A thief broke in, broke the gate and now the sheep have scattered. My sheep are broken off into small groups. They are scattered within the bounds of the gate and outside of its boundaries. I Am an all consuming fire. And the fire of My Spirit, of My love, of My truth will round up and unite My sheep again. I Am like a burning fire that will surround the sheep and and move them back together, move them back into unity, move them back, gather them back to be within the boundaries of freedom that I have set lovingly, carefully for them.
7 “Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when they will no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ 8 but, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up and led back the descendants of the household of Israel from the north land and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ Then they will live on their own soil.”
Jeremiah 23:7-8
No longer will they laugh and say, look at how all of His sheep are scattered here and there doing things this way and that way and wandering however they choose. No, they will say, wow, His sheepfold has become a mighty, fearsome army. His sheepfold is gathered and organized and united. His sheepfold has raised and carries the banner of the King. They are one. They are one. No longer will they laugh and mock and delight in how the sheep have scattered at the hands of the thief. They will look on at this mighty, united fearsome army of Believers, and they will back up. They will get tripped up as they back up. And a great net will come down from Heaven and fall on them, trap them, secure them and bind them. The ones whose joy it was to see and sow division, the ones whose joy it was to malign, lead astray, break down and destroy — it will cover the ones whose joy is division, rancor, heartache and rot. They will all be caught as they look on in fear at the mighty united fearsome army of Believers that has been assembled within the bounds of My sheepfold of freedom.
11 “For both prophet and priest are polluted;
Jeremiah 23:11-12
Even in My house I have found their wickedness,” declares the Lord.
12 “Therefore their way will be like slippery paths to them,
They will be driven away into the gloom and fall down in it;
For I will bring calamity upon them,
The year of their punishment,” declares the Lord.
Watch for that net. It will drop, it will cover and it will catch and bind them all. Come back My sheep. Return My sheep to the sheepfold of My freedom. My all consuming fire will gather you up again, and no longer will the mockers be able to say that My sheep are scattered and divided. They will say, they are one.
How to Respond
- Ask the Lord what cultivating unity and returning to first principles looks like in your life.
- Pray, Holy Spirit, break down the walls that we have built to divide Your Church. Tear down those walls, and reunite us with our brothers and sisters. Gather up the wayward ones and return them to the sheepfold of Your freedom. Move us by Your Spirit into holy formidable formation as one — Your united Church.
- Declare, the gates of hell will not prevail against those whom the Lord has saved, healed and delivered. They and their families shall be saved.
- Decree, the Church of the Lord is one. The Church of the Lord is being moved by the Spirit into alignment and into ferocious unity. We will not be shaken. We will no longer be ones scattered and divided. We are one.
